SAP Cloud for Customer(依照性能上分成 SAP Sales Cloud 和 SAP Service Cloud) 同 SAP Business By Design 有很深的渊源。
2006 年时，SAP 汇集了寰球研发部门的精英，开始了一款新的面向中小企业的基于云的管理软件，代号为 A1S，意即 All in one service，这就是起初问世的 SAP Business ByDesign.
SAP Business ByDesign 后盾基于 ABAP 编程语言，运行于所谓的 NGAP 平台，即 Next Generation Application Platform 之上。
SAP Business ByDesign 涵盖了中小企业运作的很多端到端流程，比方 Finance, HR, OTC, PP, MM 等，当然也蕴含局部 CRM 性能。这些性能的后盾实现，保护在 NGAP 一个叫做 Application Layer 的平台层里。
而 SAP Cloud for Customer 重用或者说借鉴了 SAP Business ByDesign 的 AP Layer 的模型，性能上专一于 CRM 畛域的 Sales 和 Service 性能实现。
上面这张图是 SAP Cloud for Customer UI Designer Xrepository 里的 UI 模型列表，从中能够看到有不少的模型名称依然带有 BYD 的前缀。
BYD_COD: COD 是 Content On Demand 的缩写。
